Background of the Study
Microfinance institutions (MFIs) provide financial services to small-scale entrepreneurs, especially those in rural areas who are excluded from traditional banking systems. In Niger State, poultry farmers face numerous challenges, including limited access to capital for expanding operations, upgrading infrastructure, and improving productivity. Microfinance loans are critical in bridging this gap and enabling business growth in the agricultural sector (Musa & Bello, 2023).

Poultry farming, a major part of the agricultural economy in Niger State, has seen a surge in microfinance loan usage. However, the direct impact of these loans on business growth remains under-explored, particularly with respect to increasing production capacity, enhancing profitability, and improving farm management practices (Usman & Sule, 2024).

Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of microfinance loans, many poultry farmers in Niger State still face challenges in utilizing these funds effectively. Factors such as inadequate financial literacy, poor loan repayment rates, and misuse of funds often hinder the success of these loan schemes. This study seeks to understand the actual impact of microfinance loans on business growth and identify strategies for improving loan usage and repayment (Bamidele & Akintoye, 2023).

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the impact of microfinance bank loans on the growth of poultry farming businesses in Niger State.
  2. To identify the challenges faced by poultry farmers in accessing and utilizing microfinance loans.
  3. To recommend strategies for enhancing the impact of microfinance loans on poultry farming growth.

Research Questions

  1. How do microfinance bank loans impact the growth of poultry farming businesses in Niger State?
  2. What challenges do poultry farmers face in accessing and utilizing microfinance bank loans?
  3. What strategies can improve the impact of microfinance bank loans on poultry farming growth?

Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: Microfinance bank loans do not significantly impact the growth of poultry farming businesses.
  2. H0: Challenges in accessing and utilizing loans do not significantly affect business growth.
  3. H0: Proposed strategies do not significantly improve the impact of microfinance loans on poultry farming growth.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on poultry farmers in Niger State, analyzing the role of microfinance bank loans in business growth. Limitations include variations in loan amounts, loan conditions, and external factors like market conditions and government policies.
